Sometimes when I'm substitute teaching in a public school they do a required lockdown practice. I tell the kids that I grew up during the Cold War and we had to jump under our desks for protection from an atomic bomb. They usually say we were nuts, I agree but add that everyone was scared of The Bomb...and it didn't happen! Then I add that active shooters are more common but still rare and they shouldn't live their lives in fear. Maybe that helps them keep some perspective on the world. Kids are given too far too much to be afraid of, and that's no way to grow up.

If you are a sociopath who is morbidly rich, when do you care if children are victims of gun violence? When you can be linked to these crimes against kids. And as long as the gun oligarchs write the laws and regulations to enrich themselves, they don't give a shit. Maybe we should bring back "Duck and Cover," I loved those commercials.
