I was just reading the Raw Story article via the link you provided — thanks, by the way — and noticed that billionaire Harlan Crow paid for Thomas' grandnephew's tuition at Randolph Macon Academy in VA. I played football and ran track against RMA in the '60s while a student at a different VA boarding school; the occasional athletic event at RMA never failed to shock me. Aside from the depressing reality of attending military school, the students had to contend with the presence of an enormous paper mill that spewed a stench from its smokestacks. That stench was simply overwhelming — and probably unhealthy to boot. Thick clouds of smoke issued from these smokestacks endlessly.

The teams I’d played on and ran for never lost. And after a meet or game RMA always invited us to dinner in the school's dining room. The students would stand and applaud our team as we entered, which was a genuinely gracious thing to do. But as we settled in to eat, the students were almost silent throughout the meal. I was so grateful that my folks had not chosen to send me there.

Also, the Raw Story indicates that the grandnephew attended for only two years before moving on to another school. I’m not surprised. If I were him I’d have despised Harlan Crow for wasting two years of my life in a hellmouth like RMA.
