I just purchased The Hidden History of the Supreme Court in audio yesterday and completed The Hidden History concerning voter suppression yesterday. I will buy the hard copies and intend to listen to the whole series while walking for exercise since I was recently diagnosed with type two diabetes and can't sit to read for hours anymore. I will listen to the books from the series I have already read. each is about $11.00 so I will try not to purchase more than one per week which is about four hours of listening.

I am grateful to AOC for standing up to what used to be thought of as an awesome institution of nonpartisan justice during my childhood. I am grateful to Thom Hartman for his efforts and accomplishments to seek the truth and share it with the rest of us.

Even if AOC's impeachment efforts fail, as Hartmann pointed out, the exposure caused the court to change course in the past and may do so again.

Even if the Court changes it's evil ways, the damage has been done. Reversing Roe vs. Wade will cause terrible suffering and even death among thousands or even millions of women. I don't believe in the supernatural but it would seem evil has taken possession of some of them. I submit that it is religion. Next time you are looking for an audio book, may I suggest: "God is not Great how religion spoils everything" by Christopher Hitchens. And " The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins. These will open your eyes.

PS. Don't tell your religious friends about these, they might burn you at the stake or dunk you in a pond to see if you're a witch.

What is so crazy-making is how these heretics use the name of Jesus in vain while proclaiming the hatred, violence and injustice of the Old Testament as true "Christianity." As in "Christ." Who would be horrified at most of what MAGA believes.

lol. Thanks for the suggestions. I wrote them down. I have watched videos of Hitchens and Dawkins debating with someone on the "God" topic but it's been a few years.

LOL grandstanding! So, what is the opposite of grandstanding? Standing? Please explain how Biden is standing up to the beyond-the-pale corrupted SCOTUS. Biden'd position on the legal structure can be assayed by his appointment of Garland. Biden could now, after the serendipitous presidential empowerment by the SCOTUS, wreak havoc on them. But he won't. He won't stand.

This is my frustration. Garland is useless. He has no spine, no sense of urgency, nothing other than mealy-mouthed self-backside protection. Sure, he appointed Jack Smith - two years too late and very little support. Also at fault is Biden, who has refused to fire Garland.

From an article in Salon this morning: "Justice Department probe of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas could uncover whether the justice knowingly and willfully filed false financial disclosure statements or failed to pay taxes on luxury gifts — despite Attorney General Merrick Garland's likely lack of political will to launch an investigation months before the November election, legal experts told Salon.""

We have no functioning justiciar system in this country - just a mechanism for putting poor people, especially poor black men, in for-profit, enslaving prisons - industries based in the confederate south.

In theory the courts should do nothing but rule on the merits of any case. But that has rarely happened and I doubt that anything will ever change. We need judicial reform that will limit the power of all judges. Lifetime appointments to the Supreme Court is ridiculous. It empowers justices to do as they please without any possibilty of accountability.

A "four year" presidency could theoretically give the US four, 44 year old Justices for forty-four years?!?

What could go wrong??

I wish congresswoman Cortez all of the luck in the world, though I think her efforts will be in vain. Worse, Uncle Thomas and Asslito have Kavanaugh and Gorsuch in Judicial Tyrant Bootcamp, I am willing to bet.

Odds are against it succeeding, but it calls attention to the blatant corruption at the highest level of the judicial system. Hopefully the media will take this & do some serious investigation into others in the Supreme Court who enjoy unreported favors in exchange for favorable rulings. This may encourage the public to favor expansion of the Supreme Court, which would be possible if the voters give control of Congress & the White House to those who oppose the convicted felon & fascist who is running for President & his corrupt sycophants.

The parties in SCOTUS cases have stanning to object. Not one has filed a friiggin' motion to recuse or for disqualification. AOC is a minority member. Probably won't even be able to subpoena witnesses.

I think Thomas has a criminal problem. Potential bribery, perjury, false financial statements. Given that Congress will never bring impeachment the practical answer vests with DOJ.

So it all comes back to Garland, appointed by Biden--Garland who when compared to cotton candy makes cotton candy look like granite. I remember when Ms Cortez began to make her bones from the jump, having the audacity to actually act like a democrat, and how quickly and with country-club elitist elan the Democratic Queen of Crones Pelosi put her in her place. "Ooo, I like her energy". An exceptional put- down from snobbish heights. Takes years of elitist exceptualism to capture that kind of graceful entitlement condescension. AOC is demonstrating the behavior that most democrats still half-believe are basic Democratic Party principles. But hey, investments. While AOC makes courageous moves, Pelosi has made millions from political associations unnamed. We have a Supreme Court that puts to shame any court world-wide and in history when evaluated by flagrant corruption, and Biden could make many moves to challenge and change that legal sewer. Let's, to date, given the power to do so, Biden has . . . This one is not about senility, it is about complicity.

I don't trust the Democratic leadership! Especially on whether Biden should step down or not. The left lost control of the Democratic party thanks to the Reagan democrats back in the eighties. We have had two crooked parties looting the nation since Ronald Reagan. Biden appointing a republican attorney general. I keep hearing what a great job Biden is doing! I must live in an alternate universe!

Kamala Harris for president, even if we do have a dictatorship at least we went down fighting! I think Kamala, the token black lady, would throw a kink in all of their freaking plans! Trump doesn't even know his son is not married? Speaking of senility!

This nation won't elect a woman, let alone one of color. Look how they used sexism to shred Hillary's campaign. If Kamala is at the top of the ticket, we lose. Full stop. Oh, she's capable and bright enough. But she has the wrong genitals. That's the USA Today.

My thoughts on Garland are well known on this substack. Biden brought the fox into the henhouse with Garland, and Garland has been doing yeoman work for the Republican party. He couldn't wait to appoint another Trump dick head, David Weiss as special counsel for a private citizen, but has run cover for the traitors in congress, and only appointed Jack Smith after being shamed into it by peers. And Smith, certainly hasn't been up to the job, considering that he is sitting back and letting Aileen Cannon run roughshod over the documents case.

The media is consolidated and owned by oligarchs. There is no chance they will perform their function and "do some serious investigation" into SCOTUS. They are in the tank for Trump (especially NYT and WaPo.) All the owners see is that next tax cut, country be damned.

Senator Schumer went down the list of what they have destroyed recently when he opened the day on the Senate floor; he also spoke about something coming. It's good to know they have been working on it.

Resolutions that get put on the shelf don't "spoil". I'm glad AOC is bringing it. We need strong young women that are not afraid to "punch" back.

They lied to get confirmed, they love the lying psychopath that cheers them on, so no surprise if they lie when faced with an impeachment.

If only they understood your history lesson, Thom. If only one of them could be convinced or charmed by praise, but I think the other c-words that will continue to apply to them is crass and corrupt.

Count this as a like. I am remembering that Kavanaugh had an "audience" with Trump before returning to the hearing with quivering victim lip. How dare this nobody female threaten my apotheosis? I remember thinking, if I was one of his daughters, I would change my name ASAP! in shame! Who will tell them the FBI had to be subverted to protect their sleaze bag father? But Thomas is the sickest tragedy of all. When I look at that famous portrait of Thomas amidst his manipulating groomers, I wonder if it is possible that he really doesn't know how they despise him: snigger at him when he leaves the room? Backslap each other in congratulation that they know the price of a good house-n...... (I do not doubt the word slips easily from their lips in his absence.) Or is he so depraved that he knows, but thinks he wins because his price is high? These are the scum of humanity.

Apotheosis made me laugh. If Kavanaugh ascends anywhere, it should be to a prison planet where women have total control over his body.

Thomas is a bit like Trump---he thinks being honest and doing the right thing is for chumps. He just wants to get paid and he did.

I think maybe they are an insult even to the scum.

I was just reading the Raw Story article via the link you provided — thanks, by the way — and noticed that billionaire Harlan Crow paid for Thomas' grandnephew's tuition at Randolph Macon Academy in VA. I played football and ran track against RMA in the '60s while a student at a different VA boarding school; the occasional athletic event at RMA never failed to shock me. Aside from the depressing reality of attending military school, the students had to contend with the presence of an enormous paper mill that spewed a stench from its smokestacks. That stench was simply overwhelming — and probably unhealthy to boot. Thick clouds of smoke issued from these smokestacks endlessly.

The teams I’d played on and ran for never lost. And after a meet or game RMA always invited us to dinner in the school's dining room. The students would stand and applaud our team as we entered, which was a genuinely gracious thing to do. But as we settled in to eat, the students were almost silent throughout the meal. I was so grateful that my folks had not chosen to send me there.

Also, the Raw Story indicates that the grandnephew attended for only two years before moving on to another school. I’m not surprised. If I were him I’d have despised Harlan Crow for wasting two years of my life in a hellmouth like RMA.

"The country owes Representative Ocasio-Cortez — and Senators Whitehouse and Wyden — a big thanks along with an overwhelming reelection victory for Democrats this fall."

We owe them not just thanks but an overwhelming support for their reelection. And we owe corporate AIPAC funded Democrats uniting to take the voice of progressive Democrats and the values of FDR out of this Democratic Party by primarying them out by buying the election an exit from legislatures everywhere. If "the squad" chose to leave the Democratic Party and start their own by separating from the Party of Elephants in Donkey suits the Democratic Party has become, we could have a viable third party. Just do it after we knock out Trump.

Defeating Trump and the Maga Mafia needs to be the first priority of the American citizens. The second first priority of the American Citizens needs to be cleaning up or replacing the Democratic Party so it or its replacement can again do the work the people have long needed done.

Sadly, it is too different today. The terrible SCOTUS decisions won’t impact enough people quickly enough to create the outrage the decisions of the Four Horsemen did in the 1930’s. Indeed, millions of “Americans” actively support the decisions, as they perceive them as assisting their faux orange demigod. Add on a President whose cognitive issues have a far more public impact than FDR’s physical ones and a far less friendly Congress, toss in a media controlled by the morbidly rich and delighted (because its owners ignore history) at the prospect of a second coming of their eyeball grabbing flatulent son of Satan, and there is little likelihood this SCOTUS will feel any pressure to become more moderate or is at any risk of actual sanctions for its corruption. Given the arrogance of the Gang of Six, it is more likely they will just double down, because they can.

If our country is worth saving, if it has any hope of resuming its incremental March forward in realizing its aspirational values, that must start with the bluest November possible. Each day that goes by with the Democratic Party in disarray makes that unlikely. I rage at my severe physical and financial limitations, both preventing me from having much power to affect that. Thanks to the Bulwark, I can at least rage against the coming of the looming darkness…

Unfortunately Our President Biden is not FDR. The fight hasn't gone out of him but his strength has. A strong Joe Biden would have had this traitor Trump behind bars on January 21st 2021. A strong Joe Biden would have simply dismissed the Court's outrageous rulings as null and void and closed the the building. With perhaps a note to Justice Roberts that he could come back to work after he showed proof that he had cleaned up his act.

My sister from Oklahoma called me today saying "What is this Project 2025? I just heard about it and it is really scary. Who is doing this? Why?

Now, my sis is not OK born and she's no MAGA. But, like the vast majority of Americans, she gets her news in about an hour a day by tuning into a mainstream talking head (sometime Fox to see what they are saying, but not always.) She's liberal-leaning. She was shocked when she found out that up until the late 70's women had almost no economic rights in this country. This is the world the Republicans intend to recreate.

I have been ranting about Project 2025 for the past nine months or so. Mine has not been the only voice, but mainstream media completely ignored this until very recently. I have posted about it on nearly every forum I can find. People just had never heard of it. I'd like to think that, not just my voice, but all the voices of those paying attention are starting to be heard. The next thing to consider is Agenda 47, which is Trump's platform, overlapping with Project 2025. Pay no mind to the man behind the curtain saying he knows nothing about his own platform. Trump is 100% onboard with Project 2025. (Hard not to think that Garland isn't playing along, too.)

Make no mistake. This SCOTUS will rubber-stamp all provisions of the (male) White Christian Nationalist Project 2025 if the Republicans take over government.
