“O, yes! The ruling class are worthy of study.

The natural history of the ruling class is of

fascinating interest. You begin with interest,

you proceed with awe and admiration,

you deepen into hatred, and you wind up with

contempt for the nature of the beast.

You realize that - The Capitalist Class is the

Meanest Class that ever grasped the Reins of Power.

I agree that the people at the top are into greed. To them the money isn't a necessity, it's a way of keeping score. He who dies with the most toys, etc.....

Beyond the ultra rich, we truly will not be able to move those in the party who are ideologues. There are some very prominent Dems that have figured that out. FINALLY! Now I think you'll see the effort focused on those we can reach. We know from the surveys and polls that there is a certain percentage in this country with common sense goals. I see the administration speaking to THEM; they do it with their choices of policy and personnel.

The Republicans have never been good at looking at the big picture. The climate crisis and covid are forcing us to further part ways from them. Their narrow agenda will literally kill America. People will fight for the future. That is what this country was founded on. So put up your "dukes" and pick an issue. I know I have.

OK, we all agree, so now what do we do about it? The progressive "movement" is so fragmented it's hard to know who to join up with. I get at least a half dozen requests for donations every day. and I can't afford to donate to all of them. It's really hard to know where the best place would be to focus my limited resources. Thom, who do you mostly donate to? Who are your top five?

Before my Mother passed away, she use to make small donations to various Republican solicitors. She became inundated with mailed requests. She was old and finally gave up with literally a full mailbox everyday. I would visit and spend all of my time going through mail to sort the good from the bad and bagging garbage bags full of mail. I finally got her to stop but the mail kept coming.

I'm not sure it's greed so much as a desire for power, perhaps based on fear. Orwell discussed this in "1984". But since he was writing before computerized systems could watch everybody I think he was an optimist! Anyway, no matter what economic label is used (fascism, capitalism, communism, etc.) the last thing a person embedded in a strongly bureaucratic system wants is to give up power and trust the people. In that sense most Republicans, especially Trumpites, are even worse because they seem to see things in very negative terms; at least Democrats will do some things to help all of the public. But I think most Republicans simply assume everyone else is as grasping and fearful as they are, and if not then they are weak suckers. And when you get like that you're dead inside and only the lust for power remains.
