Trump Pardons BitMEX Founders Convicted of Money Laundering
What Happened: Trump has granted full pardons to BitMEX co-founders Arthur Hayes, Benjamin Delo, and Samuel Reed, who were convicted of violating the Bank Secrecy Act for failing to implement anti-money laundering controls. The pardons were signed quietly Thursday and not publicly announced.
Why It Matters: This Trump-issued pardon shields high-profile crypto executives convicted of running a “money laundering platform,” sending a dangerous message that financial fraud can be wiped clean with the right political connections. It undermines market integrity, guts equal enforcement of financial laws, and shows Trump is using his power to protect the crypto world—no matter how dirty the money.

I've been writing about this.... retirement and disability are funded by endowments, not by funds that come from the budget.

We Mapped DOGE’s Silicon Valley and Corporate Connections
What Happened: WIRED has mapped the backgrounds of dozens of operatives working inside unauthorized DOGE, revealing a deep network of ties to Musk, his companies, and his allies. At least 49 DOGE staffers have links to Musk’s empire—SpaceX, Tesla, xAI, Neuralink, and X—as well as to allies like Peter Thiel and firms like Palantir.
Why It Matters: This is cronyism disguised as reform. Musk’s tech allies are being embedded deep inside federal agencies, turning public institutions into tools of a private billionaire’s agenda. It’s not about efficiency—it’s a hostile takeover that blurs the line between government and corporate power.

3. My message for the day. Today it turns out we compromised Israeli security via signal.
The way to handle it is to get Congressional Republicans (we alraedy have all Democrats) who are complaining on the record and make them stick to it. Any redblooded American has to be pissed. We have an election Tuesday and need only 3 House seats.... Many Congressional REPUBLICANS are pissed.
Jerry Weiss has a list. Wicker, Murkowski, Tillis, etc have called Trump a liar on Ukraine.
It is unlikely that Musk has anyone that knows COBOL programming. It is too old. It is still the best language for precision in finance. None better. That is why it is still in use. .
I'm sure there are AI programs to convert it to another code language.
Once upon a time I was a beta tester for Asymetrix Corporations' OpenScropt softsware that wujdda, shudda been the esperanto of programming.
I'm so old that all that was available was Fortran, and I remember that COBOL was offered to business students who, as my ol' pappy would say, couldn't find 5/8ths of a number.
Don’t be so dismissive. I designed and programmed many complex statistical applications in COBOL. And I wasn’t a business major. You could do anything in it if you were smart and creative enough.
They would be hard pressed to deal with the million+ lines of code related to the SSA systems. We both had an upbringing in the early days. I worked in COBOL and Pascal. My frustration was with so many operating systems (OS). Seems like I had to learn 10-15 over the years as each new computer type had their own OS, and we had to port the applications software from machine to machine. That became a full time job. I grew bored to death, maxed out salary wise, and turned to my English minor to venture into and grow in the field of Government proposal writing.
In school, computers consisted of 1 credii coursse, which was actually data processing using Fortran cards. I was lucky to pass.
I am, at best a dillitante. Never part of my job decrription. When I was in private practice, we had 2 computers, but the boards were ruined by lightning. I learned by necessity.
At first, when I worked for SSA I was not permitted to use the computers -- even for word processing. I took couses on my own dime.
My sister in law had a work relationshp with Paul Allen, who owned Asymetrix. .
I programmed "Social Security Tutor" 30 + years ago for SSA, which I'm told has been updated but still is in use.
What you despribe is probably data maipulation. I am dated, bujt in social sciences they used to program SAS, which is proprietary.
By now, AI should be able to handle it, and humans are probably obsolite.
Is it just me or does everything this administration is doing smack of building an alliance with BRICS? From hiring clowns to make America look and be as weak as possible to very quickly trying to destroy the dollar as international currency… Trump and the tech bros seem to be working to kill as many democracies and those who believe in them in a hurry.

Worked with FORTRAN for decades.
COBOL: Common business oriented language
FORTRAN: Formula translator

Me too, unfortunately. China, the "C" is buying gold like crazy and the price is astronomical -- even though physics has mastered alchemy.
