Saturday Report 9/7/24 - Liz Cheney Rips Into ‘Misogynistic Pigs’ Trump and Vance
The Best of the Rest of the News
— Trump Aide Who Assaulted Arlington Cemetery Worker Was a January 6th Mastermind. NPR has stayed on this story, although America’s corporate media appears to have decided to give Trump a pass on it after he lied and said he knew nothing about it and then later lied and denied it ever happened. The two alleged criminals are deputy campaign manager Justin Caporale and Trump advance man Michel Picard, according to NPR. The Arlington employee has said that she will not press charges because she is afraid that Trump’s Nazi followers (my characterization, not hers) will track her down and threaten her with violence or harassment. This is how fascists get away with their bullying and violence; they inspire fear. The appropriate response to fascist violence like this assault and Trump’s denials is for the Department of Justice to open an investigation and perhaps even empanel a grand jury, but relying on AG Merrick Garland to take on Trump or his followers can be hit-or-miss. For the moment, it looks like Caporale and Picard will get away with their assault on the most sacred ground in America. Nonetheless, this is worth bringing up with your elected officials, asking if Congress will investigate both the assault and the crime of Trump filming a campaign video at Arlington. The phone number for Congress is 202-224-3121.
— On the subject of Trump’s “Big Lies,” his cultists are freaking out because he just admitted that he “lost the election by a whisker.” As Right Wing Watch notes, “In addition to being a Hitler–loving racist, misogynistic, antisemitic, homophobic Christian nationalist fascist, white supremacist Nick Fuentes was also deeply involved in the ‘Stop The Steal’ movement following the 2020 election and was outside the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 insurrection.” Fuentes is the Nazi Trump had dinner with recently at Mar-a-Lago, but he’s now seriously pissed off at the Orange Führer. Trump has betrayed people who followed or depended on him his entire life, from employees to family members to politicians who tried to earn his favor. Now it’s Fuentes’ turn. On his podcast, he went off on a rather pathetic rant: “So, why did we do Stop the Steal? Why did anyone go to Jan. 6? Why is anyone sitting in jail? Why did anything bad happen to anybody? Why did everyone get censored? Why is everything bad that has happened to the people that were involved, why did that need to happen if you’re just going to walk it all back and say, ‘Oh, I lost’? Well, it would have been good to know that before 1,600 people got charged. It would have been good to know that before I had all my money frozen, [was] put on the No Fly List, [got] banned from everything, lost all banking and payment processing. It would have been good to know that before I, in 2017, dedicated my life to this as an 18 year-old in college. It just feels like a big ripoff. It just goes to show what a tremendous betrayal it is. It’s just such a callous indifference to the sacrifices that his supporters made on his behalf.” Poor Nick. We all tried to tell him, but some people just never listen. Do you think this may cause him to reconsider dedicating his life to hate, misogyny, racism, and fascism? I’m not holding my breath…
— Authorities are now going after the parents of school shooters. That’s a good thing. The father of the Georgia school shooter (this is the 45th significant school shooting in America this year according to CNN) has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and cruelty to children for giving his 14-year-old son an AR-15 for Christmas which was then used to kill two children and two teachers. It’s about damn time that parents who supply deadly weapons to their children are held accountable. Now, how about some of these idiots below (all are Republican members of Congress) answering for their promotion of this sort of thing? It’s beyond time to ban weapons of war from America’s streets, and to regulate guns the same way we do cars, with licensure (written exam and proof of proficiency and safety), required liability insurance, and annual registration with the state, as I lay out in The Hidden History of Guns and the Second Amendment.
— Oklahoma Schools Revolt Against the State’s Absurd Bible Mandate. State Superintendent of Education Ryan Walters has required, at the demand of that state’s Republican Governor Kevin Stitt, that every public elementary school classroom in the state teach the Bible. Which presents a problem for teachers. Will they be sharing the multiple massacres the Bible’s God demanded his followers commit? Or Lot having sex with and impregnating his two daughters (creating the lineage that led to Jesus)? Or how Jesus told his followers that the only way to get into heaven is to feed the hungry, heal the sick, house the homeless, and be kind to prisoners (that’s probably waaay too liberal for Oklahoma Republicans)? That children who talk back to their parents should be stoned to death? Or that people who wear clothing made of two different fabrics or eat shellfish must be punished? Or will they instead go for some BS that they’ve “interpreted” from the Good Book? Perhaps none of the above, as teachers, school superintendents, and principals are refusing to bring Bibles into their classrooms. As one superintendent said, “Most teachers are Christians themselves, and don’t want ANOTHER type of Christian teaching their child anything about the Bible, and are therefore not going near this.” Oh, yeah: that’s why there’s a “wall of separation” between church and state in the Constitution.
— Liz Cheney Rips Into ‘Misogynistic Pigs’ Trump and Vance. The audience went wild with applause when former Congresswoman Liz Cheney tore into Trump and Vance during an interview with Atlantic staff writer Mark Leibovich. “Look, I think that, you know,” Cheney said, “every, every opportunity, that Donald Trump gets to show the American people who he is. He pretty clearly – and look, his running mate is doing this too I mean, you know. This is my diplomatic way of saying it. They’re misogynistic pigs.” That was followed today by an announcement that former Vice President Dick Cheney himself has formally endorsed Harris and Walz. As I asked in yesterday’s newsletter, where will the GOP go from here? It’s going to be one of the more interesting political dramas in America over the next few years…
— Judge Juan Merchan went along with Trump‘s lawyers request to postpone his sentencing, so now it’s set for the week of Thanksgiving. In my opinion, this increases the chances that the judge will sentence him to actual prison time. Michael Cohen, after all, went to jail for three years for this exact same crime that Trump ordered. If I were this judge I would also be furious; Trump has ridiculed the court, attacked the judge’s family, tried to dox and intimidate the jury, and acted in numerous other ways that would have immediately caused any other criminal defendant to be remanded to jail in a New York minute. If Trump loses the election, he will still be citizen Trump and the judge will have every right and ability to go after him. If Trump wins, the issue will probably be moot as he will figure out some way, as president, to blow this up and make it go away with the help of his boosters on the Supreme Court.

So the Cheney’s have stepped up. Where are the Bushes and M Romney? And other prominent so called Republicans? You can’t sit this one out boys and girls. Pick a side: Democracy or christofascism. History will judge you.
The state of Georgia is going after a low functioning probably not too bright father in a dysfunctional family for failing to do what the Georgia state government failed to do. They are going to punish an adult for what a child did, yet they are going to try the child as an adult. Which is it? The Republican Party is the DIY party. In other words, It’s the F-U Party you’re on your own but if you mess up you’ll be thrown in jail and your 14 year old child too. This passing of the buck needs to stop. Georgia has failed. Georgia is responsible. The reason guns need to be regulated the way cars are is because there are families like this. Many many of them and they are leaving a bloody trail of tragedy.
