But mostly a sad delusion that if they are nice enough, Republicans will come around to cooperation and care for the country. Bullies don't stop bullying until you hit them hard on the shins with a wooden dowel. I can tell you this from experience. I'm speaking metaphorically in the case of Democratic politicians, but accurately in my own case. I have grown weary of the Democratic motto of: "We can't. The Republicans won't let us. They'll be mad at us."
