It's not so much the recount anymore. It's Section 3 of the 14th Amendment that is still in play

"10. Bring up a bill in the Senate to offer Trump amnesty"

Here's a list of potential action that could be taken, including Section 3, with details.

It's all wishful thinking at this point. It doesn't look like Dems or Biden are taking any action

I do not understand what offering Trump amnesty achieves.

Could you explain please.

It seems to me that if the Democrats offered him amnesty, they are actually blessing him and his agenda.

And if there was the slightest chance that the Democrats bounced back, by offering him amnesty they would have discredited themselves in the sight of the public and the party, not to mention the public.

In essence in 1938 when Hindenburg offered Hitler Chancellorship of Germany he was in essence giving him amnesty for the Munich Putsch.

There is more than one similarity between Hitler and Trump, both were convicted felons., and both are traitors.

The bottom line, is there's no way he will get 60% of the vote, so he won't be eligible to take office. If Dems don't push on this now, we lose the opportunity. Right now, it feels like they've forgotten about this last piece of power that they have.

OK I understand now. I think. Kind of convoluted, if Congress fails to give Trump amnesty he is ineligible to take office.

Which to me, is the situation as it stands now. I fail to understand how Congress offering but failing to give him amnesty changes the situation.

That's the point. My understanding is currently he has the insurrection impeachment hanging over his head, which prevents him from being president, per Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. By Dems forcing a vote to remove this ineligibility; hence, giving him amnesty, it brings this back into focus. He would have to get 60% in both houses to have it removed, something the GOP doesn't have the numbers for.

The fly in the ointment is the 60% in both houses. I know of no rule in the House which requires a 60%, and in the senate 60 votes are needed to override a filibuster, and until Jan 3rd, the Democrats control the Senate, they have 47 Dems and 4 Independents which caucus with the Democrats.

There is no way that they can get 60 votes in the senate.

Exactly why they need highlight this. Without the 60%, he's not eligible.
