So who you gonna call come November?

IMO, the first Jan 6 Committee hearing was a stellar performance in the exact right venue at the exact right time for the world to witness and for history to remember: an ornate, high-ceiling rotunda filled with natural light and eager reporters at the seat of our struggling democracy. A jumbo screen and lots of clicking, whirring cameras to boot — as official as it gets. So naturally, as is their wont, the “Red Hats” have summarily dismissed the entire “Hollywood” production as a politicized “show trial” before a decisive election. Lmao.

Well, yeeeaaah! Of course it’s a show trial! And, OMG, it’s in a political arena! Oh, the horror! But that’s the whole point: government operating with the lights turned on. What a radical concept! Purportedly, we are still a people’s democracy. And, like it or not, democracy is all about politics. The electorate must look at the facts and discern the truth to make the right choices on their ballots — a duty to themselves, their families, their country, and the world.

The “sleeping giant” awakens. That’s the greatest fear of America’s growing right-wing faction of treasonous bastards — seditionists, if you will, steeped in bigoted lies and violent ideology, who have captured the entire Republican Party from their goofball generals down to the clueless privates. It’s vital for future generations and democracies everywhere that true Americans (everybody else) crush this latest fascist rebellion at the ballot box and that our justice system cuts off the head of the snake. By all means, DO tread on the yellow-bellied snakes and their stupid flags. Stomp ‘em all out! Truth matters; justice matters; votes matter.

Agreed. Let's hope Merrick Garland was watching too.

Wonderfully written article. Amazing how prescient those leaders writings were - one wonders how they could see so accurately the events we're living through? Their understanding of human nature vastly exceeds all of our learned "experts" today. After last night, we know full well who should be "lashed to the muzzle of a twelve-pounder gun".

Unfortunately, I doubt if more than 20% of the US population, these days, is capable of understanding the language of Washington's address. The state of America's education is pitiful.

Sobering, that's what the effect should be. The committee and the hearing looked exactly that-sober. Leave the histrionics for the far-right Republicans. MTG got started yesterday on the floor of the House before she saw any of it. Those deplorables are hopeless, but this is going to register with some intelligent people in the middle---the ones that like Trump's economic agenda but not him. I hope at the very least it will lessen his primary chances. He belongs in jail and should have had an inmate number long before this.

There's something called the Felony Murder Doctrine. Here is the Google explanation of that: " a rule of criminal statutes that any death which occurs during the commission of a felony is first degree murder, and all participants in that felony or attempted felony can be charged with and found guilty of murder." I know that's not where this is going, but it sure as hell should be. It happens to people who drive the getaway car, and besides one can dream, can't they?

Thom is a historian and a scholar. The term psychopath wasn't used until 1888. Our founders didn't have the word, but they absolutely knew what they were looking at---people without a conscience!

I’m holding out hope that these hearings will unleash a BLUE Tsunami!

Thank you for reminding us of Washington's words.

Sorry but I don't see the sedition of the NaziRepublican Party as a problem at all. It's not a problem, it's a symptom of the problem. The problem is the very existence within the American public of a significant minority of voters who support the NaziRepublican Party replacing our democracy and free market economy with untaxed hereditary monarchy.

These people are so fooled they HAPPILY pay 5 times what a gun is worth just to make sure the sailes company, the NRA, makes sufficient profit to pay significant bribes to SCOTUS judges and corrupt senators.
