Thom is where I think all savvy political commentators should be when it comes to the continuum between being a cockeyed optimist and someone debilitated by pessimism. This is in the reality based middle. If you have your head in the sand clinging to every piece of good news in the fight against the Trump paramilitary police state as if it mean we are on the verge of winning, and think it means the Trump army is on the run you, are ignoring how strong they are and how they are devising ways to do anything possible to stay in power. On the other side, you can be an inveterate doomsayer and no good to anyone as you sink into being immobilized by clinical depression. The place to be is in the reality based middle. You have to figure out ways to be optimistic, or at least to recharge you depleted emotional battery, without being delusional. Thank you, Professor Hartmann, for your always insightful essays. We’ve been brainwashed to believe that socialism is terrible and will destroy this country. In fact, it is the only thing that will save it. Bring back regulations for gods sake. And WTH with I don’t want to say his name, the mouthy, bullshit spewing brown white male supremacist. Who gives this guy a podium ever? Oh yeah, the white male Christian supremacists in the gop, if that’s not redundant, which it pretty much is. God. We need a major reset. These people are absolutely crazy. And yet somehow in power. We had better stop them now, before the mid terms. And don’t look for Jeffries or Schumer to stop them. Help AOC stop them.
