I’ve gotten a few emails about this, so just FYI, our first of the month Saturday morning session will be next week so we can discuss the election. Nigel mentioned this a few days ago but I should’ve repeated it in this morning Saturday report. Apologies for the confusion.

I am watching grandchildren this morning, so I'll be brief. First, I believe Liz Cheney is the one Trump stocastically threatened with a firing squad unless he also made that disgusting remark about Vice President Harris.

Secondly, I must comment about the doctors and nurses (yes, nurses) who allowed that young woman, Nevaeh (heaven), to die needlessly. I'm a nurse, not a lawyer, but I would accuse all involved of criminal negligence if I were a prosecutor. Your job, and even your license are not as crucial as one human life. I had priorities when I practiced nursing in this order: my conscience, my license, my job. I would have tried to get other nurses to shame the physicians who chose to discharge the young pregnant woman, particularly after they confirmed she was septic (commonly called blood poisoning), which is often fatal even when treated correctly and promptly. The nurses and other colleagues should have been united in their support to save the life, even if the physician were charged with a crime. Unity among healthcare professionals is crucial in such situations.

What are the chances the doctor would have been charged and, furthermore, that a jury would have convicted him? Medical school is difficult and expensive, but why even become a doctor if your oath to "do no harm" is meaningless"? I spent seven years and my own money on my nursing education, so I understand the risk of going out on a limb for a patient.

DO THE RIGHT THING AND SAVE LIVES IN DEFIANCE OF IMMORAL LAWS AND INSURANCE DENIALS. Physicians could form a coalition or union to pool their money and mutual support for legal expenses and make the practice of medicine respectable again. Respect yourselves and each other!

I had another thought about Nevaeh Crain and the other women who have died or nearly died due to the new abortion law because doctors will obey the law instead of saving the life of the woman. Of course, if the woman dies, so does the embryo or fetus. The rationale is "saving the lives of the unborn."

However, the situation for doctors is almost an experiment about how far the oligarchs can manipulate the healthcare system. What if our rulers decide that anyone over the age of 70 who can't pass a cognitive exam should be denied healthcare including vaccines, antibiotics, insulin, etc.? Would the system go along?

The Germans in the 1930s were led to whole-scale genocide, beginning with the extermination of people in institutions who needed care and were determined to be "useless eaters." The slippery slope eventually included more people deemed unworthy of resources and even their lives.

I was recently denied a continuous glucose monitor my physician decided was medically necessary for me because I had severe side effects from several classes of drugs that treat type 2 diabetes. I must control my blood glucose with diet and exercise, so the CGM is medically necessary. The denial (paraphrased) said that because I am not on insulin or proven that I have problematic episodes of dangerously low blood sugar, I'm not worthy. The CGM resources will be allocated to those who need a CGM more than I do. I have nocturnal hypoglycemia, which eventually causes heart and brain damage if not controlled. This may lead to what is now being called "type 3 diabetes" or Alzheimer's dementia.

In other words, the private Medicare Advantage Plan doesn't have to pay for it with the excuse that other people need this supposedly scarce resource more than I do. That's rationing my care while billions from the Medicare Trust Fund are going to the MA insurers. The question is, where do we draw the line? They'll keep pushing until we do. I am appealing to an Administrative Law Judge for the third time. Meanwhile, the pharmacy had agreed to fill my prescription for cash, although they previously would not allow me to pay cash when the MA plan denied payment.

My optimism is no longer cautious. Although I am less certain about what will happen after the election, and all the purging should still be a cause for concern, I am convinced that publicizing the deaths of women such as the 18 year-old described here and the anger of women about the attacks on them by Trump and the Republicans, as well as things such as the degradation of Puerto Ricans have sealed Trump's fate. I emailed a letter-to-the-editor to that effect yesterday for what it is worth which I will copy here, which also carries a stern warning:

Our very narrow escape – (for publication after Nov. 5th)

Trump will have lost this election before today, and by a huge margin.

The direction of civilization is positive, progressive, and increasingly beneficial for the majority in the absence of great famine or catastrophe caused by irresistible attack in war or uncontrollable or natural forces. A Trump win would have meant immediate movement in a negative direction, painful regression, and rapidly injurious consequences for the majority and the country.

The universe is somewhat predictable and human nature is collectively somewhat more so. Climate destabilization has not quite yet reached catastrophic proportions for us as a whole. War has not quite yet reached our shores. There is still time to correct course. We got really lucky. That has been our story, so far.

How much longer can we count on luck?

Children learn what they live. Democracy is merely a remote distraction and an abstraction for students who do not experience it directly in their daily lives. They cannot adequately appreciate what they do not know and feel firsthand for themselves. Failure to recognize this is what brought us to the brink.

Trump and his minions will try again to use delays, frivolous lawsuits, and subterfuge to get the Supreme Court to overrule the will of the people. All their efforts will fail. The Biden administration is prepared. Now, if we love democracy we must finally let our children enjoy it also during their youth. Democracy must be in their blood.

Abraham Lincoln said, "It is very doubtful if the majority is ever correct."

Expand full comment
Robert B. Elliott's avatar

I’m not familiar with that quote from Lincoln but I am curious about the context. It is true presumably and I think that the majority is wrong if they believe that the final results of this election will be close. The polls have missed the mark for a variety of reasons and things have changed quite dramatically in the last two months or so, which they cannot see through their methods.

But the more important point for me is that the majority has to be trusted in a democracy and we cannot get there if the majority are inept, ignorant, and conditioned to obey arbitrary authority via mass indoctrination. Bill Moyers quotes an unnamed friend in his book, “The Secret Government”, who said, “What you cannot see can blind you.” More importantly, what you choose not to see can blind you. We are where we are because too many people have rejected the conspicuous truth that students are being conditioned, behavior-modified, mis-educated, mollified, and pacified in schools in which a majority are not correct and their errors in thinking, perception, and judgment are passed on to a naïve and trusting captive audience. The students are captive because a majority have mistakenly believed that all it takes to preserve democracy are some teachers with some knowledge and good intentions in schools totally controlled by the state and forced on the less affluent population. Civics classes are useless under the current paradigm, and we got Reagan, two Bushes, Trump, John Roberts, Mike Johnson, etc. for that very reason.

I prefer not to speculate on the outcome of the Election. I am interested on one thing: The Truth. If you believe the Republicans are liars, you are going to have to prove that to me. At least some of them claim to be followers of Christ. And Jesus had the highest condemnation for the "pretenders" and hypocrites. If the Democrats and the media would quit lying to me, I would prefer to be able to trust them. Why can't they be honest and upfront about their agenda, plans, and beliefs.

Expand full comment
Robert B. Elliott's avatar

Whoa! I guess the Lincoln quote should have been a tip off as to what was coming.

The truth is not available to those who have already firmly decided that it is something that they know and something which conflicts with solid empirical, historical, or other evidence. It is true that those of us on the left or in the center do sometimes get careless and speak of Republicans as a unified group when we mean to refer to the Republican leadership or representatives in Washington. Clearly not all Republicans are liars, or corrupt, or unethical. Liz Cheney has proven herself to be highly principled and at least as honest as most Democratic politicians, I believe. I know some Republicans who are at least sincere. However, lying to oneself is still lying and it still often does egregious harm. Tucker Carlson is another story. He has made a real effort to evade and avoid the truth, and lying to himself must have been practiced from a very early age for him to be so good at it.

Following Christ and following Trump are as far apart as you can get. If you haven’t figured that out then nothing I can say in less than two years of non-stop writing will be of any help. Jesus himself wouldn’t have had the time to convert you I’m afraid. I grew up in an evangelical family and I know a little bit about Jesus and the Bible.

If the media is lying to you, I suspect you are looking at the wrong media. I have listened to Thom for over five years and read much of his writing including just one of his books, so far and, while I don’t agree with him quite 100%, I have never doubted that he is truthful and that his info invariably checks out with other validated and verified media sources. The agenda, for the most part is defending and promoting democracy and an America that affords equal opportunity and peaceful cooperation and honest dialogue. Spirituality has a place but religion is out of place here for most of the audience because politics, government, and scientific study are neutral with respect to religion, whether it involves Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, or some other religious icon.

THANK YOU Robert for an honest answer! Quite refreshing. So: Do you claim to be an "agnostic," or its Latin form -- "ignoramus?" Yes, the Word of God is my Standard for Truth. One thing God cannot do is lie. Therefore, anything that contradicts this Standard cannot be true. And, "No lie is of the truth" (1 John 2:21). And Jesus set another Standard: "he that is not against us is for us" (Luke 9:50). If you are an honest seeker of Truth, God, Who is "not far from every one of us" (Acts 17:27), will reveal Himself unto you. Unfortunately, there is an Imposter, "the father of lies" (John 10;44), who is continually trying to confuse everyone -- and THAT is why we all NEED a "Standard." And I have found that the Bible does stand up to all Scientific scrutiny, be it empirical, historical, or Logical. Indeed, Jesus is the "Logos."

I realized a long time ago that each of us comes from a different background, each with their own unique experience. Only God comprehends all this and since He "is no respecter of persons" (Acts 10:34): We all learn the same way. So, wherever you are in your journey of seeking the Truth, I desire to grow along with you, and desire to trust you and be your friend and earn your trust. Know this: I would never willingly deceive you, and should I be found wrong, PLEASE correct me, because as a "perfectionist," I cannot stand to be "wrong!"

In a perfect world, all sides would present their arguments, and everyone would democratically choose the best option, or after thorough discussion, combination of options -- no deception necessary. Why is it needed anyway? Why would we have to "vote for a Bill," and THEN "see what is in it?"

I know little about Tucker Carlson -- I do not follow him -- except that he seems to be attacked by the media, almost as much as Trump is. I cannot believe that Donald Trump is a "Born-Again" Christian. And with all due respect, I don't believe Jimmy Carter is either (For another discussion and I pray for him often).

As far as I know, Donald Trump has not "repented" of anything and continues to act like a "heathen." The God of the Bible would not allow this to continue, at least not for long: He 'spanks His Children (Hebrews 12:6-8). And either he or his son-in-law said, speaking of Muslims, "We are all God's Children." That simply cannot be true: Either Abraham offered Isaac, or Ishmael on Mt. Moriah. And either "God (Allah) has no son" or "Jesus is The Son of God (Yahweh)."

I have paid for the privilege to interact with The Hartman Report, at least for a month. If it is productive, I will continue. I believe we can solve our problems together. BTW, I confess that I don't know everything, but I know something about a God who claims to. And as I grow in my knowledge of Him, it is my duty and privilege to share all that I am learning with anyone who will listen. And I am meeting many new friends, from different backgrounds, in the process. Again, thank you for your time. Tim P. S. Should you say to me, "There is no such thing as 'Absolute Truth.'" -- Is that true?

Sorry, you lost me at 1 John 2:21. I doubt you will find many people here who will entertain a debate on scripture or religious faith. As I stated before, truth is not available to those who have decided that they already possess it. Saving souls is for other venues and other people. Nice try though.

"Saving souls" is not my job: only God can do that. I was simply reaching out to you by responding to your comments and introducing myself, trying not to hide anything. Perhaps I overdid it. I would like to "save" America: Are you with me or not?

Because I am a "Bible-Believing Christian," am I excluded from trying to solve the problems of the Nation I love and in which I am a citizen? I know that I cannot solve those "existential" problems alone, although I would if I could. Can we agree to at the least try to understand each other, discover the truth about our common concerns, and use words, instead of waiting until someone uses guns? Because I don't know you, I have a question: Are you following in the steps of Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Castro, Putin, Bernie, Walz? The UN? If you are, I can have no fellowship with you. But if you love America, and its Constitution, then perhaps we could work together within that framework to maintain the greatest Country on earth. Of course I understand, as Winston Churchill said, "America's political System is the worst in the world -- except for all the others." It has allowed for the likes of LBJ, Richard Nixon, Bill and wannabe Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and yes, the "reality star" and New York "business tycoon" Donald Trump, to be Presidents -- I left out all the RINOs. I sure miss Harry Truman, and my hero, George Patton.

I believe your credo, "truth is not available to those who have decided that they already possess it" is self-contradictory. Jesus said, "I am the truth" and everyone must decide whether they believe that or not and live accordingly.

Sorry, the obsession with Marx, Lenin, Stalin, etc. and trying to equate progressives or "socialists" with them is a non-starter, as is a reliance on the assumptions on "God" and the Bible as absolute authorities. You have chosen to believe and accept certain things as truth and reality which is your right and privilege. I choose not to use those (subjective, emotional, and ideological) things as my basis for solving the world's problems. We will simply have to agree to disagree and go our separate ways. I have no time to debate with someone who has answers which are outside the realm of rational discussion.

A belief in demons disqualifies him from being a Christian, as does belief in the Devil, the Anti-Christ, etc. If one believes that their god is "all-good" and "all-powerful" such beings would not exist. With a mere thought this god would uncreate them and make even our memories of their existence disappear. These concepts are leftovers from previous religious beliefs and are incompatible with what Christians say they believe . . . wait, do you think that they don't really believe what they say they believe? Concerning Abortion: There have been over one Billion abortions worldwide! Is that not enough blood for you? I distinctly remember C. Everett Koop, former US Surgeon General and Pediatric Surgeon, saying, "In 60 years of Practice, I have never had to choose between the life of the mother or the baby, nor have any of my Associates!" Tragically, it does happen, but these VERY RARE instances where the life of the mother takes precedent over the life of the baby, does not justify making ALL abortions legal, which is what Amendment 3 in Missouri would do if passed. I also remember my former US Senator, Claire McCaskill, saying with a straight face, "Partial Birth Abortion should be legal in order to save the life of the mother." IT IS IMPOSSIBLE for that UNSPEAKABLE procedure to EVER "save the mother's life!" And what do you say to the "Products of rape" that I know of who have lived productive lives? A waitress who was violently raped gave up her child, to a loving Christian family, who at age 8 snuck out his bedroom window and strangled a female playmate.

My personal opinion is that you could care less about babies, born or unborn, your real concern is preservation of the masculine prerogative, patriarchal domination.

Tim, voodoo economics is to give the rich tax breaks (50 trillion+), freetrade with China, Nixon normalized relations, legalizing illegal immigrants to bust unions (raygun, 5 million of them). The gop even bought up the dem part;y, remember the raygun democrats?

I can do nothing about Reagan or Nixon, except not to repeat their mistakes. It is not wrong to be "rich:" With it comes a lot of responsibility!

I am conflicted here: My grandfather was a member of the Railroad Workers and got Railroad Retirement for almost 30 years. I am sure he voted Democrat most of the time, except he couldn't vote for a Catholic JFK. Also, I am sure my grandparents were "Pro-Life!" If all Businesses would pay their employees "fair wages," we wouldn't need "Unions." But, what do we do about the "corrupt" Unions? My wife has the privilege to work for an "employee-owned" Company: It is nice when they distribute the "Profits!" The bottom line is: I must vote for the lesser of two "evils" and then hold them accountable to "We the People!"

Donald Trump stole the nation's most protected secrets, wouldn't give them back when asked, hid them from authorities, and stored them in a restroom next to a copy machine. Have you ever seen a copy machine in a restroom? It seems obvious to me he was selling them. Also, he's a convicted rapist. How many contractors did he refuse to pay? The lesser of two evils seems pretty obvious to me.

Sounds just like what Hilary did as Secretary of State: Maybe they should both be in jail! I haven't liked Trump ever since he called Ted Cruz a "liar." If he ever called me that, he would be on the ground, and I would be in jail! I don't trust him and if he ever betrays me and doesn't fulfill his promises, he will be held accountable. As for the Democrats: I cannot live under Communism -- "Better DEAD than 'Red'" -- or even 'Socialism." If that is what you want, move to Cuba, or California. Sorry, but I love America and our Constitution, just the way it is -- MINUS all the "Corruption!" Can't we agree on that?

I'm very proud of the constitution. Trump has suggested suspending it. He promised to put Hillary in jail, he didn't even try. He promised to have a health care plan on day one, he still doesn't have it. He promised to build a wall from ocean to ocean and have Mexico pay for it, he got just a sliver done on American taxpayer money. He promised to release his taxes, really I could go on...

I agree: I am very disappointed in Trump. But I can't see where Biden even knows what the Truth is! And he was "deposed" by Kamala! I am not voting for a "personality," but rather for a "Platform of Beliefs," which has lately been deteriorating and watered down. Does anyone Stand for anything anymore? My greatest disgust is for the RINOs -- "Traitors!" I cannot compromise with evil. But I am told to "love my enemies." However, should they ever break into my house and threaten my family, I will be like the Amish man who warned, "The place where thou standest is about to be shot!"

Speaketh the right wing culture warrior. You know damn well that your promises are hollow and cost nothing.

I charge you as a phony, you could care less about unborn babies.

I guess I or we will have to prove otherwise. And I confess, we should have been doing that years ago. A few have. If you have any ideas on how to do that. let me know -- seriously: Each baby is of eternal value to me.
